These last twelve months have taught us that having friends, community and a sense of belonging is absolutely crucial to our mental health and wellbeing. During the initial outbreak of Covid-19, we all personally experienced what it’s like to be in social isolation. It was a small glimpse into what the special needs community experiences on a daily basis and why the work that Friendship Circle does is so critical.
Throughout this period we've tried to be as creative as possible, with online programming, outdoor programming, one on one buddies, parent support evenings and thoughtful care packages. Thankfully, with the help of our super dedicated volunteers, we’ve been able to bring a lot of light and positivity into the lives of our Friendship Circle families!
As we strive to continue supporting our kids, teens and young adults with special needs and begin the road back to a post-covid world, we need to raise awareness and funds for the crucial work that Friendship Circle Upper East Side does.
This year’s walk on Sunday, May 23 will obviously look a little different than previous years, we are planning for a socially distanced day, with many small groups of close family and/or friends walking or running the same predetermined route together. All the groups will be 6 feet apart (but very close at heart)! Walk 1 mile or run a 5k or 10k for friendship!
Join us in celebrating the unique beauty of individuals with special needs and help raise the awareness and funds that will allow us to continue this life changing work!
1. Join the movement to end social isolation for individuals with special needs by registering as a walker/runner/fundraiser!
2. Decide on a 1 mile walk, 5K run or 10K run
3. Invite family and close friends to join your walk/run team
4. Spread the word and give your circle an opportunity to support this special cause
5. Crush your fundraising goal!
